The Town of Olds is essentially, a cross-section of Alberta. Olds is a major agribusiness hub as well as a base for oilfield service and light industrial manufacturers. Olds also has a history as a hub within the province of Alberta and is provincially known for its agricultural and educational endeavors. This history creates a solid foundation to continue in the legacy of Olds. However, community and business leaders acknowledge the constraint on the town's growth due to the limited availability of hotel accommodation and meeting space in the community. Decision makers in the agriculture, energy, and conference and events industries agree, indicating they would stage new or larger events in Olds if sufficient suitable hotel and meeting space was available.
Olds has adopted innovative and aggressive direction with respect to economic growth. The community partners in the Olds Institute (the Town of Olds, Olds College, Olds Agricultural Society, and the Olds & District Chamber of Commerce) are executing strategies for economic and community development that are already stimulating far-reaching effects. As a consequence, Olds is positioned as a dominant regional centre, and further economic growth will occur in the coming years.
The strong focus of Olds community leaders on economic growth and the increasing role of the community as a regional centre, coupled with dramatically increasing numbers of attendees at events at Olds College and the Olds Agricultural Society, will result in significant growth in demand for accommodation in Olds.
It is to this end that the Olds Institute, through its Business and Investment Attraction Committee, prepared professional presentations for Tourism Alberta's Investment Symposium in September 2008. But we're not stopping there. The Olds Institute is so enthused about the possibilities for a hotel/convention centre, or hotel and restaurant, that active solicitation will be occurring in the months ahead.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Business & Investment Committee. The citizens and business community are pleased to roll out the red carpet for prospective hotel and convention centre developers and franchises.
