Thanks to the efforts of the Olds Institute for Community and Regional Development and the Olds Advisory Group for Sustainable Living, Olds Town Council adopted the very first Olds Strategic Sustainability Plan in February 2008. This plan is the result of a year long public participation process, where elected officials, town staff, and citizens of Olds joined together to move toward a sustainable future.

Central Alberta will be a place to grow, thanks to a partnership of eight central Alberta organizations and the Rural Alberta Development Fund (RADF). The South Central Rural Alliance, of which OICRD is a partner, will receive $2.5M in start up funding for their project "Finishing the Dream", which will provide SuperNet connectivity to 13 central Alberta communities.
