You have a pot of soil and a package of wildflower seeds. You don't know what each of those flowers might be, but you do feel a hope of what they will become.Consider these seeds as the assets of your community. You plant the seeds, fertilize them, and watch them come up. Some flowers you're familiar with, but some are those you've never seen before. You look at those ones and say "Hey, we can come up with an entirely new bouquet".
That's exactly what the Opportunity Identification Committee is all about. Thinking about all the possibilities that are out there. Figuring out how we can extend the obvious assets we already have, and enhancing them. It's looking at our community and seeing what currently exists, then looking beyond and seeing what can exist. Then we simply close the gap.
The future of a community in the changing global marketplace requires "out of the box" identification of opportunities. These opportunities may be internal, for example identifying clustering options for existing businesses in the same sector or industry. They could be external, by ferreting out new sectors that can benefit from the enhanced business and quality of life environment in Olds.
The Olds Institute is committed to act as an agent for change and the Opportunity Identification Committee is charged with the task of delivering on this commitment.
If you think you have identified a great opportunity for Olds, please contact Chairman Stirling McLeod at 556-6277.
