"We are the Small and Medium Size Business Capital of Rural Alberta". The public process identified seven "pillars" required to support our Mission Statement. These Pillars are identified as:- BUSINESS AND INVESTMENT ATTRACTION: Finding sources of venture capital and encouraging the starting of new business in our community.
- BUSINESS RETENSION & EXPANSION: Strengthening our existing business base and being a catalyst to ensure an environment conducive to business expansion. All ideas need to be examined to ensure that the ongoing viability of our existing businesses is ensured and that they meet their full potential.
- COMMUNITY LIFESTYLE: The litmus test for all functions by the Institute. The community process clearly stated that growth for growth's sake is not important if the lifestyle of the community is impacted in a negative way. Quality of life is a major contributor to economic development and we want to be sure we do not have negative impacts on our community.
- FINANCE: All organizations require revenue and the Olds Institute is no exception. To rely only on government or the four partners does not allow for long-term stability or planning. The Board believes there are numerous opportunities to be explored for the benefit of our community.
- MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS: Marketing and promoting our community to the world. The community needs to be engaged in the process of promoting their community as every resident of our community is a potential ambassador and the best cheerleaders for the cause.
- OPPORTUNITY IDENTIFICATION: Awareness of the changing world marketplace and identification of opportunities for local businesses to take advantage of these changes. One of the purposes of the Institute is to act as an agent for change and to encourage best practices in our community and business environment.
- TECHNOLOGY: The community believes that the future of ecnomic growth for the Province will be rooted in technology.
