POST SECONDARY EDUCATION INNOVATOR JOINS TECHNOLOGY BOARD IN OLDS

Kathy Kimpton appointed to Olds Fibre Ltd. board of directors

(OLDS, Alberta – February 1, 2016) The board of directors for the Olds Institute for Community & Regional Development is proud to announce the appointment of a new director to the Olds Fibre Ltd. board. Kathy Kimpton, an innovative education leader and former Vice-President, Student & Support Services at Olds College, joins the team of the Olds Institute’s Technology committee which also acts as the board of directors for Olds Fibre Ltd. OFL owns the fibre optic network infrastructure in the town of Olds which is used by O-NET, the service provider for the community owned Gigabit broadband network.

“In addition to traditional administrative roles, as a pioneering ‘edupreneur’, I have played a defining role with several startup companies by contributing my expertise as it relates to the intersection between education and technology”, according to Kimpton’s LinkedIN profile.

Prior to Olds College, Kimpton held senior executive positions in student services, enrollment management and administration at Lakehead University, the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, and Confederation College. She has contributed to the landscape of higher education in Alberta with the introduction of a unique partnership model for enterprise resource planning as well as a public-private partnership model for student housing. Her skills in strategic planning and innovative thinking as well as collaboration and stakeholder engagement can be attributed to the success of those partnership models. She is currently in pursuit of a doctoral degree.

The Technology Committee’s vision for Olds is the creation of a connected community where citizens are intelligent consumers of technology and embrace a culture of use. They work to build an infrastructure where the community has access to and use of information technology which exists on a scale equivalent to the current use of electrical power or water in our taps.

The Olds Institute was formed in 2001 by community leaders who realized they could achieve more together than they could apart. It is governed by a volunteer board of directors representing their four founding members and includes members of the community at large.
