GRANT CHEQUE FROM LEGACY FUND  PRESENTED TO LOCAL COMMUNITY GROUP IN OLDS

Hope 4 MVC Kids Society receives funding from investment pool

(OLDS, Alberta – April 27, 2017) Hope 4 MVC Kids Society is a local non-profit organization that provides financial support for families who have a child hospitalized for extended time. This aid relieves financial stress and burden during an already stressful time. The group also supplies tools and education to long-term medical needs such as adaptive showers for wheelchair access. This organization is the recipient of the Community Legacy Fund for 2016. Cheque presentation was made at a recent Olds Institute board meeting by Cody Becker, Chair of Olds Institute and Doug Martinson a representative of Mountain View Power.

The Community Legacy Fund was created out of the Olds Endowment Fund, in partnership with the Red Deer Foundation. This partnership allows for the Red Deer Foundation to manage the administration of the fund, while the Community Lifestyles Committee of the Olds Institute focuses on supporting social development projects. It is an investment pool composed of funds that have been donated by both individuals and organizations. As a registered charity, donations received by the fund will be permanently invested and each year certain amounts are withdrawn according to the spending policy to fund worthy community projects. Its purpose is to grow until it is large enough to generate interest that can be distributed to charitable organizations and projects. The magic of the Community Legacy Fund is that it brings benefits not just for this generation, but also for future generations.

The Olds Institute was formed in 2001 by community leaders who realized they could achieve more together than they could apart. It is governed by a volunteer board of directors representing their four founding members and includes members of the community at large.
