Access Prosperity Reps Attend Select USA Investment Summit in Washington
Mitch Thomson of The Olds Institute and Dale Barr of Central Alberta Economic Partnership represented Central Alberta: Access Prosperity at an important US Summit on investment attraction.
With people from over 80 nations and each of the US states in attendance, the summit offered a significant opportunity to share the Central Alberta story and the opportunities that exist. It also afforded our reps a greater understanding of what investors around the globe are looking for.
“It was important to be at the conference to hold the Alberta door open to this very capable group of investors,” says Mitch Thomson. “It was important to create connections and gain a better understanding of the context in which investment attraction is occurring globally to ensure we are ready and responsive to capitalize on opportunities.”
In addition to hearing directly from President Obama as well as US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzer, the US shared their programs and support with those in attendance.
Thomson explains, “We met and connected with economic development officers from each US state. Specifically I made a connection with a large multinationalpharmaceutical company that could benefit from service provided by a local pharmaceutical company. I returned with a very large number of contacts to follow up with and share.”
SelectUSA was established by President Obama in 2011 to promote and facilitate business investment into the United States in order to create jobs, spur economic growth, and advance U.S. competitiveness.
