COMMUNITY OWNED POWER RETAILER INVESTS IN LOCAL RECREATION PROJECT

Mountain View Power contributes to splash park project in two ways

(OLDS, Alberta – January 21, 2015) A popular local recreation project received a helping hand from a community owned power retailer in two ways. Mountain View Power delivered a $5,000 cheque to the Olds Splash Park Association and sweetened the deal with a bonus offer. If the splash park association signs up 100 subscribers with the power reseller they will receive another $10,000 or $100 for each referral. This will garner the Olds Splash Park Association a total of $15,000 from the power retailing company which is a model in social based enterprises.

“As we move forward and as more and more customers switch over to Mountain View Power, we will focus our investments on helping community centers throughout our county.”, according to Dale Belsher, Chair of Mountain View Power. The power reseller offers similar referral payments to other not-for-profit community groups in the region.

The Olds Splash Park Association (O.S.P.A.) is a group of concerned local people who fully support the development of a Splash park facility in Olds. The mission of the Olds Splash Park Association is to provide a local family destination for recreation and enjoyment for children and residents of the Town of Olds and Mountain View County at a safe and accessible splash park without the need of admission fees.

Mountain View Power has created a sustainable revenue stream as a retailer of electricity with 100% of profits invested back into the community. Founded in 2010 following the deregulation of the electricity retail market in Alberta, the utility reseller is retailing electricity to residential, farming and small commercial business located in the County of Mountain View. This is an innovative “Community Sustainability Initiative” created under the stewardship of the Olds Institute.

The Olds Institute was formed in 2001 by community leaders who realized they could achieve more together than they could apart. It is governed by a board of directors representing their four founding members and members of the community at large.
